Development and implementation projects for energy companies and distribution system operators are at the core of our expertise. Our projects cover system implementations, integrations, data projects, process development and metering equipment mass replacements.
We have experience in project management, documentation and information management development, system implementations and integration implementations, mapping and developing our customers' business processes, and managing metering equipment mass replacement projects. Below you can find examples of these types of projects.
This is only a first glimpse - get in touch if your interest was sparked and you would like to hear more.
The project involved an extensive remote reading terminal and gas meter replacement (mass replacement), as well as the implementation of a new work order system for installation reporting and monitoring. The overall project included planning, scheduling and resourcing, tendering of equipment and system suppliers, and stakeholder management. During the delivery phase, we were responsible for leading the project team, steering group work, equipment and installation logistics coordination, and areas related to system integrations and reporting, including the implementation of Power BI reporting for monitoring installations.
The reading system (AMR) delivers electricity metering values to the metering data management system (MDM) together with data quality information known as quality bits. Each disturbance event occurring in a metering device had its own quality bit categorisation defined by the metering device supplier, but the MDM system was unable to process or report this information properly. As a result, our distribution system operator customer lacked an overall view of the number of disturbance events and the impact of metering errors on end-customer electricity billing. As a solution, we mapped and categorised the different quality bits and developed a reporting tool (Power BI) that made it possible to locate faulty metering devices in real time.
Our customer in the financial sector needed help centralising documentation and defining the required structures, responsibilities and processes. In this documentation management development project, we assessed the current state of the system, identified gaps, implemented corrective actions and involved personnel in producing and developing documentation. Acting as project manager, we defined KPIs and created the structure, process and instructions for documentation management. In addition, we implemented the necessary tools in Confluence to support documentation production and continuous updates.
A metering data management system (MDM) receives metering data from a distribution system operator's end customers' electricity meters for validation, estimation and editing. At the time, the MDM system implemented in the project was understood to be the first cloud-based MDM solution in the Nordic market. The cloud-based solution made it possible to reduce MDM system maintenance costs, improve metering data analysis and support system scalability. We acted as the electricity distribution system operator's partner, supporting the customer in system implementation and maintenance. The project lasted several years, during which we worked in both expert and project manager roles.
ERP, or enterprise resource planning, helps companies plan and manage their operations and resources efficiently. In this project, our distribution system operator customer's Dynamics AX enterprise resource planning system was replaced with a modern, cloud-based Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations solution. We acted as the distribution system operator's partner and were responsible for preparing system specifications and test plans, delivering training tailored to business processes and producing user instructions.
The project involved a smart meter rollout where 400,000 outdated electricity meters were replaced with next-generation smart metering devices. A modern, cloud-based reading system (AMR) was also implemented, and we supported our distribution system operator customer in both system implementation and further development. Project management used a hybrid model that combined the benefits of a traditional waterfall model and agile methods. During the project, work order and work assignment processes were also automated and work management was improved, which helped improve the quality, efficiency and accuracy of installations. This smart meter mass replacement was one of Finland's largest electricity meter modernisation projects, and we supported our customer in project management tasks.
Finland moved to 15-minute settlement in spring 2023, after which balance settlement began to use 15-minute settlement periods instead of the previous hourly periods. In the project, 15-minute metering data from approximately 160,000 electricity customers' meters was brought into the metering data management system (MDM) instead of hourly metering data. Some meters at larger sites were also updated to become 15-minute capable, and the time step for these metering points was updated from one hour to 15 minutes in the customer information system (CIS). The volume of imported metering data quadrupled during the project, which required extensive performance testing of the MDM system. This ensured the scalability and reliable operation of the MDM system. We acted as the electricity distribution system operator's partner and were responsible for project management tasks.
Datahub is the centralised information exchange system for the electricity retail market, storing data on Finland's 3.9 million electricity metering points. Its implementation was one of the largest energy-sector projects in Finland, affecting all electricity retailers, distribution system operators and third parties. We acted as the distribution system operator's partner in this extensive project, taking responsibility for designing and developing work order and work assignment processes with Datahub and Fingrid requirements in mind. We also prepared specifications and instructions and delivered training for both internal and external stakeholders. We also actively participated in tasks during the implementation phase.
In this project, a web-based data analytics and visualisation application was implemented to support the operational work of our distribution system operator customer's metering team. We were responsible for designing and implementing the application's databases, user interfaces and dashboards while taking business needs into account. We also handled testing of new features and their deployment to the production environment. During the project, we also prepared comprehensive documentation, training materials and user instructions for the team. The application significantly improved work efficiency and access to information.
In this project, an old customer information system (CIS) was replaced with the modern EnerimCIS system. We acted as our distribution system operator customer's partner in the role of information systems expert and were responsible for advancing different areas of the implementation. Before go-live, we prepared test plans and carried out acceptance testing for the system and its integrations (work orders or work assignments). During go-live, we organised training for different stakeholders and supported users by producing end-user instructions for the customer information system. After go-live, we were responsible for ticket management and developed collaboration between our customer and the system supplier.
